Nelson MANDELA.
When I was in primary school I came across this name.I was not really interested to know about him just because my class teacher told me that he was not a christian. The perception I had about people who are non-Christians was that as long as he is not a Christian he is evil.
I had this in me until 2007 when I entered into secondary school life. For the first time in my life I got exposed to be living far from my home, miles away from my mother who was everything to me.That was the beginning of independence to me.
Although I was already looking after myself with K20 fortnightly allowance, I did not realize the I was already drifting away from my mother's roof.
In to the classroom on the first day of my secondary school literature class was my teacher, Fr Aloysius Kiyoto (catholic priest) whose life was no way far from Mandela' life.
He handed the article about the great story of Mandela and how he freed South Africa.
The beginning of my love for Nelson Mandela....
I started reading about him and his life since that time on. I never realized how much I fell in love for what he was to his country. Despite his wife and children he was ready to face the challenge in the name of Justice for his country.
The part that captures me the most is where he will develop his vision to set South Africa free after his circumcision ceremony. The ceremony is made to show the transitional period of every South African men from their childhood to manhood.
On the very day the chief of the clan rose up to make and speech and this was what he said 'African men are nothing compared to the foreigners in the country. We may be happy to witness their manhood but these men will never ever bring that freedom which we once enjoyed back again"
Mandela who was one of the men in the group personalized what the old man said and now he has become the greatest man in the world.
My message here is to the educated folks that whatever negative words or comments you get from anybody; take it and make the best out of it. Because in one way or another if you prove it wrong it can help a lot of people whom you may not intend to help.
Like Mandela, although he is not a Christian but he is strategic which is moral from a Christian sense.
I love Mandela's life story.!!!!!
